Role Overview
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is hiring a Linux OS Developer to join its Technology practice in Mumbai (Thane), Maharashtra, India. In this systems engineering role, you will design, develop, and optimize core Linux operating system components, kernel modules, and low-level software utilities. Working with C, C++, and shell scripting across Debian-based distributions, you will develop secure, high-performance operating system solutions incorporating virtualization and data encryption standards for enterprise environments.
Core Responsibilities
- Linux OS & Kernel Development: Architect, implement, and maintain low-level system software, kernel-level modifications, and platform packages using C and C++.
- Distribution Customization: Configure, patch, and build customized OS images and package configurations tailored to Debian Linux distributions.
- Automation & Scripting: Author, maintain, and execute complex shell scripts to automate build processes, deployment routines, and system administration workflows.
- Virtualization & Security: Implement virtualization components and enforce robust cryptographic and system encryption standards across OS layers.
- Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Conduct deep system-level debugging, analyze kernel traces, and resolve OS performance bottlenecks and defect reports.
- Time-Bound Delivery: Analyze technical requirements quickly and take end-to-end accountability for developing and delivering production-ready software components within defined release schedules.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Professional Experience: 3 to 8 years of dedicated hands-on experience in Linux system programming and OS-level development.
- Core Languages: Strong programming proficiency in C and C++, coupled with comprehensive knowledge of shell commands and scripting.
- Operating System Expertise: Advanced knowledge of Linux OS internals, kernel configurations, and Debian distribution package management.
- Systems Engineering: Hands-on experience working with hardware/software virtualization platforms and system encryption protocols.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving abilities, high ownership mindset, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
