Software Engineer (Java / AI Tools) - Level 08

Role Summary

Synchrony is hiring a Software Engineer (Level 08) specializing in Java application development and Developer AI Tools for its Information Technology and Engineering division in India. In this role, you will build and maintain backend software applications using Java, integrate AI-assisted developer tools into the software development lifecycle, and develop AI agents and automation instructions to optimize engineering productivity. This position offers flexible working options aligned with US Eastern meeting hours (6:00 AM – 11:30 AM ET / 2:00 PM – 11:00 PM IST).

Key Responsibilities

• Application Development: Design, write, and maintain robust Java applications following structured software engineering standards.
• AI Tool Integration: Leverage and evaluate AI developer productivity tools (such as GitHub Copilot and Atlassian Rovo) to streamline code generation, testing, and documentation.
• AI Agent Development: Assist in building AI agents, authoring instruction markdown files, and defining operational skills for developer assistant workflows.
• System Troubleshooting: Analyze application logs and system behavior using structured problem-solving techniques to perform root cause analysis and execute resolution plans.

Key Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field (or High School Diploma/GED with equivalent practical development experience).
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of hands-on software engineering experience in Java application development.
• Mandatory Technical Stack: Java.
• Preferred Exposure: Developer AI Tools (GitHub Copilot, Atlassian Rovo), AI Agent frameworks, and Markdown instruction authoring.
• Work Setup: Enhanced flexibility with choice to work from home or regional engagement hubs (Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Kolkata, Delhi NCR), aligned with US Eastern meeting hours.
