Role Overview
PUMA has an opening for a Software Engineer I (Full Stack) within the Consumer Intelligence & Engagement team in India. This role focuses on developing and scaling consumer-facing web applications that power AI-driven product discovery, search capabilities, recommendations, and real-time personalization. Working across the full software stack—with emphasis on frontend architecture using React, TypeScript, and modern web frameworks while supporting Java/Spring Boot microservices—you will partner with engineering leads, AI/ML teams, and product managers to deliver engaging digital eCommerce experiences.
Core Responsibilities
- Frontend Architecture & UI Development: Design, build, and maintain modular, responsive UI components and web applications using React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript standards.
- Full Stack Integration: Connect frontend client applications with distributed backend microservices, enterprise data platforms, and RESTful APIs to deliver low-latency consumer workflows.
- AI & Recommendation Engineering: Partner with AI/ML and Data Engineers to integrate generative AI features, dynamic product recommendations, and machine-learning-driven discovery models into user interfaces.
- Search & Discovery Services: Implement and optimize discovery and search capabilities using indexing platforms such as Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or Azure AI Search.
- Backend & Data Layer Support: Develop and support Java and Spring Boot backend integration points, querying relational (SQL) and NoSQL datastores with Redis caching layers.
- Reliability & Observability: Enforce strong engineering practices covering security standards, system monitoring, tracing, code quality, and application performance tuning.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Professional Experience: 2 to 4 years of hands-on software development experience building consumer-facing web applications and full-stack systems.
- Frontend Competence: Strong practical proficiency in React, TypeScript, modern JavaScript (ES6+), responsive design, and state management patterns.
- Backend & API Knowledge: Working experience building or integrating RESTful APIs and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
- Data & Caching: Practical understanding of relational (SQL) and non-relational (NoSQL) database concepts alongside in-memory caching solutions like Redis.
- Search Technologies: Exposure to search engines such as Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or Azure AI Search.
- Cloud & Distributed Systems: Exposure to event-driven architectures (Apache Kafka), cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and core system design principles.
- Modern AI Tooling: Familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools, Generative AI models, or LLM-backed applications is an advantage.
