Technical Lead - Software Engineering (Automotive Designer - Heavy-Duty Vehicle / MATLAB / Simulink / MBSE)

PACCAR

Role Summary

PACCAR India is seeking an experienced, analytical Technical Lead - Software Engineering (Automotive Designer - HDV) to join our engineering and technology center in Pune, Maharashtra, India. In this technical leadership role, you will lead model-based vehicle configuration, performance simulations, and system design for heavy-duty vehicle (HDV) programs across conventional, electric (EV), and hybrid powertrain technologies. Utilizing MATLAB, Simulink, and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles, you will own system-level driveline decisions, mentor implementation engineers, and deliver robust, regulatory-compliant, customer-focused vehicle architectures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Driveline & Performance Modeling: Lead EV, hybrid, and conventional driveline design, system modeling, and dynamic simulation for heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
  • Technical Direction & Mentorship: Own system-level driveline design decisions, establish technical modeling standards, conduct peer design reviews, and guide implementation engineers.
  • Simulation & Vehicle Analysis: Execute static and dynamic performance simulations to evaluate design feasibility, efficiency, fuel economy, regulatory compliance, and customer duty cycles.
  • Calculation Logic & Methodologies: Define, validate, and maintain engineering calculation logic and algorithms supporting vehicle configuration systems.
  • Verification & Validation (V&V): Design comprehensive test cases, lead simulation validation against physical test data, and ensure high fidelity across virtual models.
  • Stakeholder & Product Alignment: Collaborate closely with Testing, Quality, Product Planning, and Sales teams to translate complex technical constraints into optimized vehicle solutions.

Key Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: 6 to 10 years of progressive professional experience in automotive system modeling, driveline design, and vehicle performance simulation.
  • Core Technical Competencies: Deep expertise in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), MATLAB/Simulink, dynamic system simulation, and heavy-duty vehicle powertrain architectures.
  • Validation & Testing: Strong background in requirements engineering, verification and validation (V&V) protocols, and test case design.
  • Vehicle Domain Knowledge: Solid understanding of heavy-duty vehicle layout, packaging constraints, chassis systems, and commercial automotive regulatory standards.
  • Preferred Capabilities: Familiarity with control algorithm fundamentals, Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) modeling, and engineering lifecycle management systems.
