Role Summary
Optum (UnitedHealth Group) is hiring an AI/ML Engineer in Hyderabad, Telangana. In this technical lead position, you will design, build, and deploy production-grade AI/ML solutions across healthcare domains such as clinical trials, lab diagnostics, patient schedule optimization, and FDA dossier preparation. You will manage end-to-end ML lifecycles—from data processing and feature engineering to experiment tracking, model monitoring, drift analysis, and cloud deployment across Azure and GCP.
Key Responsibilities
- ML Architecture & Model Development: Design and deploy scalable machine learning models using Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Scikit-Learn, adhering to Responsible AI and explainability standards.
- MLOps & Pipeline Engineering: Build production-grade ML workflows, feature stores, experiment tracking systems, and vector database integrations using MLflow and ONNX.
- Model Monitoring & Observability: Lead drift analysis, model health monitoring, and performance degradation tracking in production environments.
- Cloud & Data Integration: Partner with data engineering teams to integrate real-time and batch pipelines utilizing Synapse, BigQuery, Databricks, Dataflow, Kafka, EventHubs, and Pub/Sub.
- Architecture Governance & Mentorship: Review C4 models, Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), and mentor data science teams on cloud-native ML best practices.
Key Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
- Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in Data Science or AI/ML engineering, including 2+ years in technical leadership roles and full ML lifecycle production deployments.
- Mandatory Technical Stack: Python, SQL, Pandas, NumPy, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn, MLflow, ONNX, Vector Databases, Azure, GCP, Databricks, BigQuery/Synapse, and Kafka/EventHubs.
- Domain Exposure: Experience with Clinical Trials, FDA Dossier Preparation, LIMS, Lab Diagnostics, or Patient Schedule Optimization.
- Preferred Technical Skills: Familiarity with PySpark, Hadoop, and US Healthcare domain data models.
