Role Summary
NXP Semiconductors is hiring a Senior Software Engineer – AI Operators to join our Edge AI computing team in Hyderabad. In this role, you will take ownership of the end-to-end design, implementation, and low-level optimization of core AI operator modules and computational kernels. You will translate complex AI/ML mathematical formulations into highly efficient C/C++ and custom ISA assembly code, collaborate closely with hardware architects and compiler engineers, and utilize advanced profiling tools to minimize latency and maximize throughput across next-generation edge AI silicon.
Key Responsibilities
- AI Operator & Kernel Engineering: Design, develop, and maintain high-performance AI operator kernels in C/C++ and specialized assembly for custom ISA-based edge AI accelerators.
- Mathematical Translation: Analyze deep learning operator math (convolutions, matrix multiplications, activations, attention mechanisms) and architect hardware-aware execution strategies.
- Performance Profiling & Bottleneck Resolution: Use advanced profiling and debugging tools (such as GDB, Gprof, and trace analyzers) to isolate memory, compute, and latency bottlenecks.
- Hardware/Software Co-Design: Partner with silicon architects, compiler specialists, and application teams to align ISA capabilities with higher-level AI software frameworks and runtime stacks.
- Architectural Modernization: Benchmark and integrate emerging techniques in kernel scheduling, quantization, and tensor acceleration to drive competitive edge-inference performance.
Key Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (Ph.D. is a strong plus).
- Experience: 3+ years of dedicated experience in low-level systems programming, OS internals, or kernel-level software development for high-performance computing.
- Core Stack: Mastery of C/C++, assembly language programming for specialized processor ISAs, OS internals (memory management, caching, scheduling), and profiling toolchains (GDB, trace tools).
- Nice to Have: Hands-on experience with AI/ML compilers (e.g., TVM, MLIR, LLVM), hardware-software co-design, and SIMD/vector processing architectures.
- Professional Competencies: Deep mathematical intuition for machine learning operators, rigorous code optimization discipline, and effective collaboration within multidisciplinary silicon teams.
