Role Overview
Nokia features an opportunity for a Software Engineer within the Network Infrastructure (NI) IP Routing Software team in India (Hybrid). In this engineering role, you will design, implement, and optimize high-performance data path solutions deployed across both custom and merchant silicon. Focused on mission-critical networks, AI fabric data centers, and web-scale service provider architectures, you will build modular, unit-tested networking software supporting advanced packet forwarding, traffic scheduling, and virtualization technologies.
Core Responsibilities
- Datapath Design & Implementation: Develop, optimize, and maintain low-latency, high-throughput datapath solutions on custom and merchant silicon architectures.
- Packet Forwarding Engineering: Implement and validate advanced packet routing and forwarding protocols, including IPv4/IPv6, MPLS, Segment Routing, and VXLAN overlays.
- Traffic Management & QoS: Design and configure quality-of-service (QoS) frameworks, including network shapers, policers, scheduling algorithms, access control lists (ACLs), and TCAM resource management.
- High-Performance Processing: Leverage Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) and acceleration libraries to optimize packet throughput and CPU extraction pipelines.
- Virtualized Environments: Deploy, test, and profile networking software within virtualized Linux platforms utilizing KVM and Docker containers.
- Software Reliability: Write robust, modular C/C++ code backed by automated unit tests and participate in code reviews to ensure system stability across telecommunication standards.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Professional Experience: 3 to 10 years of direct hands-on software development experience focused on networking solutions and datapath architectures.
- Core Languages: Strong proficiency in C and C++ programming within Linux networking environments.
- Protocol Knowledge: Demonstrated experience with packet forwarding technologies (IP, MPLS, Segment Routing, VXLAN) and QoS mechanisms (policers, schedulers, ACLs, TCAM).
- Acceleration Frameworks: Hands-on implementation experience utilizing DPDK for high-speed packet processing.
- Virtualization: Experience working in virtualized Linux development environments utilizing KVM and Docker.
- Preferred Experience: Exposure to SONiC network operating system or contributions to open-source networking projects.
