Role Overview:
Microsoft is hiring a Software Engineer for its Core OS and Storage Engineering team in Hyderabad. The team builds platform components and end-user storage experiences powering Windows devices, Azure, Xbox, and Windows Server ecosystems. This role offers opportunities to tackle complex systems challenges, including storage virtualization, kernel/device driver development, and local-to-cloud storage integration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conceive, design, develop, and maintain storage and file system virtualization components across client, server, and cloud architectures.
- Ensure high performance, efficiency, and reliability of core storage technologies.
- Conduct performance analysis of designs considering rapid advancements in hardware and cloud storage protocols.
- Own the software engineering lifecycle end-to-end: system design, coding, code reviews, validation, delivery, and maintenance.
- Author documentation, unit tests, and engineering tools to enhance team productivity and system maintainability.
- Foster an inclusive, collaborative culture while building deep understanding of the broader storage ecosystem.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
- Core Systems Programming: Proven experience coding in low-level or object-oriented languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- Kernel & Driver Depth: 2+ years of hands-on experience with kernel engineering or device driver development in Linux or Windows environments is preferred.
- Storage Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with storage virtualization (RAID, caching, tiering, thin provisioning), Block Storage, File Systems, or database/KV stores (e.g., RocksDB, ACID transactions).
- Security Requirements: Must be able to pass standard Microsoft Cloud background checks.
