Role Summary
Microsoft is hiring a Software Engineer for its Azure Data (Microsoft Fabric platform) team in Bengaluru, Karnataka. In this early-to-mid career engineering role, you will help design, build, and maintain high-throughput, multi-tenant cloud platform services. You will write code to automate operational tasks, reduce service maintenance toil, optimize data engineering workflows, participate in on-call rotations for live-site reliability, and champion operational excellence across the Microsoft Fabric unified data stack.
Key Responsibilities
- High-Throughput Engineering: Build, refine, and support high-throughput, multi-tenant cloud service infrastructure powering Microsoft Fabric.
- Automation & Toil Reduction: Write robust automation scripts (PowerShell, Python) to eliminate manual operational tasks and streamline engineering workflows.
- Live-Site Operations & Reliability: Participate in regular on-call rotations to maintain service health, troubleshoot live-site issues, and drive site reliability engineering (SRE) practices.
- Process Optimization: Evaluate and document existing data engineering architecture, identifying areas for performance tuning, governance enforcement, and resource optimization.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Managers and engineering teams across Microsoft to deliver customer-centric, reliable platform features.
Key Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
- Experience: 1+ years of technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration (or 2+ years without a technical degree).
- Scripting & Automation: 2+ years of hands-on experience using scripting languages like PowerShell or Python to automate operational and engineering processes.
- Core Concepts: Understanding of cloud service operations, multi-tenant system reliability, automated testing, and software debugging methodologies.
- Security Compliance: Must be able to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire and every two years thereafter.
