Role Summary
Microsoft is seeking an experienced Software Engineer 2 - Frontend to join the Microsoft 365 Copilot team in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. In this role (operating in a hybrid model with 3 days per week in-office), you will design, build, and ship Copilot Search experiences end to end using React and TypeScript. You will be responsible for building accessible, high-performance web interfaces across web, desktop, and mobile hosts—including integrations with SharePoint and OneDrive—while integrating real-time streaming AI answers, rich source attributions, and advanced web performance optimizations at global scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Feature Development: Design, build, and deploy Copilot Search features end to end in React and TypeScript across worldwide production rollouts.
- Web Performance Optimization: Drive end-to-end rendering speed and time-to-first-answer via server-side rendering (SSR), hydration tuning, bundle-size optimization, service workers, and early data fetching.
- AI Integration: Implement streaming UI patterns for AI-generated responses, managing dynamic citations, source attribution, and graceful fallbacks for incomplete or failed calls.
- Experimentation & Telemetry: Instrument telemetry, define key engagement and performance metrics, and conduct staged A/B rollouts to steer product direction using data.
- Reliability & Live-Site Operations: Participate in operational health monitoring, automated client diagnostics, and on-call rotations to rapidly mitigate production incidents.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with designers, product managers, and backend search/relevance teams to translate complex AI experiences into shippable, intuitive interfaces.
Key Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
- Experience: 4+ years of professional technical engineering experience with coding in languages including JavaScript, TypeScript, C#, C++, Java, or Python.
- Technical Capabilities: Strong production experience developing web applications using React, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, browser rendering architectures, and web performance tuning.
- System & Live-Site Mindset: Hands-on experience with telemetry instrumentation, experimentation frameworks, client-side diagnostics, and on-call operational support.
- Preferred Capabilities: Familiarity with search/information retrieval concepts, web accessibility standards (WCAG/a11y), embedded mobile/cross-platform hosts, and streaming LLM UI integration.
