Role Summary
Mastercard is hiring a Software Engineer II for its technology center in Pune, Maharashtra. In this mid-level backend engineering role, you will design, develop, and maintain high-performance, cloud-ready microservices and enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, and Kafka. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to build scalable payment solutions, write unit and integration test suites, participate in code reviews, optimize system performance, and support production systems throughout their software development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Application Development: Translate business and product requirements into modular, maintainable, and performant Java/Spring Boot microservices and RESTful web services.
- Architecture & Design: Participate in software component design, contribute to architecture discussions, and conduct proof-of-concept experiments.
- Quality & Automated Testing: Design and execute unit, functional, and integration test suites, leveraging Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices and participating in peer code reviews.
- Observability & Operational Readiness: Build applications with logging, monitoring, and fault-tolerance mechanisms, performing root cause analysis to resolve production and application issues.
- Continuous Integration & Innovation: Integrate CI/CD pipelines, enforce secure coding standards, and explore modern engineering practices such as AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows.
Key Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience: 3–6 years of software development experience with core expertise in Java ecosystem and microservices architectures.
- Core Tech Stack: Solid proficiency in Java, J2EE, Spring, Spring Boot, Apache Kafka, REST APIs, and JPA/ORM.
- Engineering Practices: Demonstrated experience with automated testing, cloud-native deployments, secure SDLC principles, and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Desirable Exposure: Familiarity with AI-assisted coding tools, autonomous agents, and application observability frameworks.
