Role Summary
Kyndryl is hiring a Java Developer – Mainframe Modernization Specialist across its India locations in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Gurugram, Greater Noida, and Pune (Partially Remote). In this transformation role, you will analyze legacy COBOL mainframe applications and refactor business logic into modern, cloud-ready Java microservices. You will work closely with architects and domain experts to optimize converted code, ensure data integrity, maintain business continuity, and integrate modern applications with legacy core systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Legacy System Analysis: Analyze COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, DB2, and IMS batch programs on z/OS environments to map technical dependencies and business workflows.
- COBOL-to-Java Transformation: Convert, refactor, and modernize legacy COBOL applications into scalable Spring Boot Java microservices and enterprise solutions.
- Integration & Code Optimization: Design integration channels between modern Java applications and mainframe platforms while optimizing translated code for cloud readiness.
- Testing & Technical Documentation: Author mapping specs and conversion guidelines, conduct peer code reviews, and support system integration testing (SIT) and user acceptance testing (UAT).
- DevOps & Deployment: Collaborate with DevOps teams to deploy microservices using modern CI/CD pipelines, containerization tools, and cloud platforms.
Key Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent technical field.
- Experience: 5 to 10 years of software development experience in Java, including 2+ years of hands-on mainframe development or migration exposure.
- Core Java Stack: Strong proficiency in Java (8/11/17+), Spring Boot, Spring Framework, RESTful web services, and microservices design principles.
- Mainframe Knowledge: Basic to working knowledge of COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, DB2, IMS, and mainframe batch processing in z/OS environments.
- Nice to Have: Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Git, and automated transformation tools.
