Role Summary
Goldman Sachs is seeking an Associate Software Engineer to join its Site Reliability Engineering team in Bengaluru. The role combines software and systems engineering to build, operate, monitor, automate, and scale high-performance, distributed, and fault-tolerant systems supporting Compliance Engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Reliability: Proactively manage production services by monitoring availability, capacity, performance, and overall system health.
- System Design: Contribute to system design, capacity planning, launch reviews, and production readiness activities.
- Scalability: Improve system capacity, reliability, and performance through engineering and architectural enhancements.
- Incident Management: Participate in sustainable incident management and blameless postmortems to improve system reliability.
- Observability: Build and improve monitoring, logging, metrics, tracing, and system-control capabilities.
- SRE Practices: Define and maintain Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs) to measure service reliability.
- Automation: Engineer automation and self-healing capabilities to reduce operational toil.
- Performance Engineering: Conduct capacity modeling and performance tuning to support future system demand.
- Debugging: Identify, troubleshoot, and optimize application and system issues while automating routine operational tasks.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field involving programming is preferred.
- Experience with Java, Python, or Perl.
- Experience developing applications in Linux environments with knowledge of SDLC and automated testing.
- Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software design.
- Experience with observability technologies including distributed tracing, logging, and metrics.
- Knowledge of Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or OpenTelemetry.
- Strong understanding of Docker and Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of networking protocols and load-balancing strategies in distributed environments.
- Strong analytical, debugging, problem-solving, and automation skills.
- Experience with SRE, relational databases, Hadoop, big data, or financial services is preferred.
- Knowledge of chaos engineering, cloud-native architecture, AWS/Azure/GCP, or Infrastructure as Code is preferred.
- Experience with Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation is preferred.
