Role Overview
Fox Corporation is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer – Backend to join the Personalization & Recommendations (PNR) API Platform team on-site in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. In this core backend engineering role, you will build and scale high-throughput, low-latency microservices that power real-time content discovery and personalized recommendations across FOX digital products (including FOX Sports, FOX News, and Tubi). Working at the convergence of backend systems and ML infrastructure, you will architect resilient distributed systems combining user signals, vector similarity search, and real-time ML inference models.
Core Responsibilities
- Microservices & Platform Engineering: Design, build, deploy, and operate high-throughput, low-latency backend microservices powering personalized content discovery and recommendations.
- Distributed Systems Architecture: Architect scalable, resilient, and fault-tolerant distributed systems, performing comprehensive high-level and low-level system design trade-offs.
- Data Store Management: Design and optimize efficient data access patterns across relational databases (PostgreSQL/Aurora), key-value NoSQL stores (DynamoDB), and distributed caching layers (Redis/ElastiCache).
- ML Inference Integration: Partner with ML Engineers and Data Scientists to embed machine learning models and reranking algorithms into real-time serving pipelines.
- Operational Excellence: Drive production reliability through telemetry, system performance tuning, observability practices, and active participation in an on-call rotation.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate closely with Product, Analytics, Machine Learning, and Platform teams to deliver recommendation capabilities across web, mobile, and Connected TV surfaces.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Educational Background: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
- Professional Experience: 5+ years of software development experience architecting and operating production backend systems.
- Programming Proficiency: Strong programming expertise in backend languages, with a distinct preference for Golang.
- Distributed Systems & AWS: Proven expertise building scalable distributed systems hosted on the AWS cloud ecosystem.
- Database & Caching Fundamentals: Hands-on experience with relational database optimization (PostgreSQL/Aurora), NoSQL access design (DynamoDB), and cache invalidation strategies (Redis/ElastiCache).
- Foundational CS Concepts: Solid mastery of core data structures, algorithms, and modular software design patterns.
- Preferred Exposure: Familiarity with vector databases (Pinecone, Milvus), search engines (Elasticsearch, OpenSearch), ML serving frameworks (Triton, SageMaker), event streams (Kafka, SQS), container orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS), and Terraform.
