Role Summary
EXL Service is seeking an experienced Data Engineer - Cloud Data Engineering to join our insurance analytics practice in Gurugram. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain robust, large-scale data pipelines supporting Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance pricing, underwriting, rating, and actuarial analytics. Working in tandem with pricing actuaries, data scientists, and cloud engineering teams, you will engineer modern cloud ETL/ELT pipelines using Snowflake, PySpark, and Python to power predictive pricing models, generalized linear models (GLMs), and regulatory data submissions.
Key Responsibilities
- Pipeline & Framework Engineering: Architect, build, and maintain scalable batch and incremental ETL/ELT data pipelines using Python, PySpark, and SQL.
- Snowflake Data Warehousing: Optimize Snowflake-based data models and query performance to handle complex policy, claims, quotes, coverages, and pricing datasets.
- Actuarial & Model Support: Engineer transformation layers that prepare and supply curated data for Generalized Linear Models (GLMs), predictive pricing engines, and rating algorithms.
- Data Quality & Governance: Implement automated data validation checks, data profiling, and reconciliation frameworks to guarantee high data integrity across analytical assets.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with actuaries, data science squads, and business analysts to translate complex risk analytics requirements into performant data architectures.
Key Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related discipline.
- Experience: 6 to 9 years of dedicated data engineering experience with strong cloud data warehouse and big data processing exposure.
- Core Stack: Advanced proficiency in SQL, Snowflake, PySpark, Python, data modeling, and end-to-end ETL/ELT architecture.
- Domain Expertise: Proven knowledge of Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance workflows and data structures across policies, claims, premiums, and exposures.
- Nice to Have: Hands-on experience with Databricks or AWS data services, and relevant cloud certifications (Snowflake Core, AWS, Databricks Certified Data Engineer).
- Professional Competencies: Strong analytical debugging, structured technical documentation habits, and effective stakeholder communication.
