Role Summary
Eurofins Scientific is seeking an Infrastructure Database Engineer to install, configure, secure, maintain, and optimize database platforms. The role focuses on database availability, performance, backup and recovery, security, disaster recovery, automation, and operational support across on-premises and Azure environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Database Administration: Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain MSSQL and PostgreSQL database servers.
- Database Management: Create and maintain database objects including tables, indexes, views, and stored procedures.
- Backup & Recovery: Develop and maintain backup strategies and implement high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions.
- Database Security: Implement role-based access controls, permissions, encryption, and database security policies.
- Performance Optimization: Monitor database performance, analyze query execution, optimize SQL statements, and manage indexing and partitioning strategies.
- Azure Database Management: Administer Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and other applicable Azure database services.
- Automation: Develop automation scripts using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar technologies to improve operational efficiency and reliability.
- Operational Support: Monitor database availability, capacity, scheduled jobs, backups, replication, and performance.
- Incident Management: Investigate database incidents and service requests and perform root-cause analysis for recurring or high-impact issues.
- Collaboration: Work with infrastructure, DevOps, application, development, and security teams on deployments, migrations, and operational improvements.
Key Qualifications
- 3–4 years of professional experience in database administration.
- Mandatory hands-on experience with MSSQL and PostgreSQL.
- Experience with Windows and Linux environments.
- Knowledge of SQL, query-performance analysis, database monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with backup, restore, high availability, and disaster recovery techniques.
- Experience with database access controls, encryption, and security practices.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure and Azure database services.
- Experience with scripting or automation using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar technologies.
- Knowledge of ServiceNow, BMC Helix, JIRA, Grafana, or Terraform is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline is preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills and the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
