Role Overview
D. E. Shaw India is seeking an experienced engineer to join as a Senior Member, TechOps within the Python Infrastructure team under the Core Tech organization, based out of Hyderabad, Bengaluru, or Gurugram. In this operational leadership and platform reliability role, you will take broad ownership of the operational health, stability, and release cadence of foundational Python infrastructure products that power firmwide trading, analytical computations, grid execution, and data services. You will spearhead incident management, automate repetitive operational toil, oversee CI pipelines and scheduled jobs, manage firmwide Python package migrations, and mentor operational team members.
Core Responsibilities
- Continuous Integration & Job Oversight: Oversee CI pipelines, cron schedules, and build workflows, actively triaging build breaks, speed/memory performance regressions, and import bottlenecks alongside development teams.
- Operational Automation & Toil Elimination: Identify manual, repetitive support tasks across release validation, cron verification, and test triaging, engineering reusable Python scripts and automation tooling to eliminate operational friction.
- Package & Platform Upgrades: Lead firmwide Python library upgrades and dependency migrations, architecting rigorous compatibility testing, fallback procedures, and rollout schedules to ensure minimal business impact.
- Release Management & Monitoring: Direct release engineering across internal repositories, ensuring seamless deployment, cron installation, validation, and rapid resolution of post-release defects.
- Incident Response & Support: Lead production incident triage for core infrastructure services, coordinate root cause investigations (RCAs), and escalate critical platform anomalies to maintain maximum uptime.
- Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Establish operational standards, review diagnostic procedures, and guide junior operations engineers within a high-standard engineering environment.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Educational Background: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
- Professional Experience: 3 to 10 years of relevant industry experience in technology operations, site reliability, DevOps, or systems engineering.
- Python & Tooling Proficiency: Solid proficiency in Python with demonstrated ability to develop operational automation, debug unfamiliar codebases, and resolve library-level failures.
- Systems & Environment: Strong hands-on experience in Linux/Unix environments, including shell commands, system resource diagnostics, networking fundamentals, and OS internals.
- Analytical & Problem Solving: Detail-oriented troubleshooting approach with the capacity to isolate performance regressions and memory leaks under pressure.
- Preferred Capabilities: Hands-on experience with Git, CI/CD orchestration, Python testing frameworks (e.g., pytest), package management workflows, and large-scale build/job scheduling systems.
