Senior Software Engineer - Java (Backend / Microservices)

Role Summary

Clarivate is seeking a Senior Software Engineer - Java to join its Intellectual Property Content team in a hybrid role based in Karnataka, India. The role focuses on designing, developing, testing, and maintaining scalable Java backend applications and RESTful microservices using Java 11+, Spring Boot, AWS, and relational and NoSQL databases to support high-quality patent data processing and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Software Development: Design, develop, and maintain clean, efficient, scalable, and maintainable Java applications in accordance with established coding standards.
  • Backend Engineering: Develop RESTful microservices using Java 11+, Spring Boot, object-oriented design principles, and microservice architecture.
  • Architecture: Define software solution architectures and evaluate alternative methodologies and techniques to achieve technical and business objectives.
  • Code Quality: Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance to ensure applications meet quality, maintainability, and performance standards.
  • AWS Development: Build and integrate cloud-based solutions using AWS services such as Lambda, RDS, API Gateway, and S3.
  • Testing & Automation: Develop automated and unit tests for assigned applications and contribute to reliable continuous integration and development practices.
  • Documentation: Prepare and maintain technical documentation while ensuring development activities follow the full software development life cycle.
  • Technology Evaluation: Maintain awareness of technical advances and evaluate new software, tools, and development technologies relevant to the team's engineering needs.

Key Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant software development experience, with demonstrated expertise in Java backend technologies.
  • Core Technical Skills: Java 11+, File I/O, multithreading, collections, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and object-oriented software design patterns.
  • Cloud & Databases: Experience with AWS cloud services, including Lambda, RDS, API Gateway, and S3, along with RDBMS and NoSQL databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
  • Development Tools: Hands-on experience with Jira, Jenkins, Maven or Gradle, and Bitbucket.
  • Key Methodologies: Strong understanding of the software development life cycle, continuous integration, continuous development, automated testing, and code review practices.
  • Preferred Skills: Exposure to Linux shell scripting and client-side technologies including Angular, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Work Model: Permanent full-time position operating in the IST time zone with a hybrid work model and approximately 9 hours per working day, including a 1-hour lunch break.
