ASIC Engineer (ASIC Design & Verification / Subsystems / Tape-Out / Debugging)

Cisco

Role Overview

Cisco is seeking an ASIC Engineer to join its Product and Engineering division in Bangalore, Karnataka, India (Hybrid). In this hardware engineering role, you will contribute to defining, designing, and verifying high-performance ASICs and ASIC subsystems deployed across Cisco’s enterprise and networking platforms. Working across the complete lifecycle from specification through tape-out, you will optimize for Power, Performance, and Area (PPA) targets while driving chip- and block-level debugging for high-volume, high-reliability silicon solutions.

Core Responsibilities

  • ASIC Architecture & Subsystems: Define, architect, and design high-performance ASIC components and reusable subsystems from technical specification through tape-out.
  • Design Implementation: Own complex functional blocks, ensuring all design implementations strictly achieve targeted power, performance, and area (PPA) benchmarks.
  • Silicon Verification & Diagnostics: Resolve block-level functional issues, support chip-level debugging, and troubleshoot across ASIC, software, and hardware interfaces.
  • Code Modularity & Reusability: Develop modular, reusable hardware design code and documentation to accelerate future silicon project pipelines.
  • Methodology & Tooling: Assist in evaluating and standardizing engineering processes, verification methodologies, and design implementation tools.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with multi-disciplined hardware, firmware, and software engineering teams to align on product roadmap deliverables.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree with 1–3 years of related engineering experience, or a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, VLSI, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Domain Expertise: Practical familiarity with ASIC design workflows, architecture definition, and multi-functional subsystem development.
  • Debugging Capabilities: Demonstrated aptitude in hardware debugging, root-cause troubleshooting, and block/chip issue resolution.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and technical communication skills to convey complex concepts across diverse engineering squads.
  • Preferred Capabilities: Direct experience in networking technologies, along with exposure to hardware emulation platforms and formal verification tools.
