Role Summary
BrowserStack is hiring an Engineering Manager (Scalable Systems & Platform Engineering) for a fully remote position open to candidates anywhere in India. In this critical leadership role, you will lead, mentor, and expand a world-class team of engineers building high-throughput, mission-critical infrastructure that powers over two million daily tests globally. You will architect robust distributed systems, establish engineering best practices across the SDLC, define technical roadmaps alongside product managers, and foster a high-performance culture of ownership and engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership & Architecture: Architect, design, and guide the development of fault-tolerant, horizontally scalable backend platforms and complex web/desktop application systems.
- Team Building & People Management: Hire top engineering talent, conduct continuous performance evaluations, mentor engineers, and establish clear career growth paths within the team.
- Delivery & Roadmap Execution: Collaborate with product managers, designers, and analysts in an Agile framework to estimate deliverables, manage sprint commitments, and ensure predictable releases.
- Operational & Platform Reliability: Drive root cause analysis for high-severity production incidents, eliminate performance bottlenecks, and improve system availability across multi-datacenter environments.
- Engineering Excellence: Champion clean architecture, code quality, automated testing, continuous integration, and continuous improvement across the product development lifecycle.
Key Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or an equivalent technical field.
- Experience: 8 to 12 years of overall software engineering experience, including dedicated people leadership and technical management within product-led companies or fast-scaling tech startups.
- Technical Background: Deep expertise in scalable backend services, distributed systems, streaming architectures, relational databases, and high-concurrency environments.
- System Scaling: Proven hands-on capability to scale systems horizontally and vertically, with a track record of resolving complex production and performance bottlenecks.
- Leadership Competencies: Exceptional communication, empathetic mentorship, transparent stakeholder management, and a strong product startup mindset.
