Role Summary
American Express is seeking a Software Engineer II to join its Corporate Onboarding initiative as a Full Stack Engineer with strong front-end expertise. The role focuses on building customer-facing React applications and Java backend services, integrating enterprise APIs, and owning features through design, development, testing, deployment, and production readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Frontend Development: Design and develop responsive, scalable, reusable UI components and customer-facing workflows using React.
- Onboarding Journeys: Build complex multi-step application and corporate onboarding journeys with a strong focus on user experience.
- Dynamic UI: Implement role-based UI behavior, application state management, form handling, validations, and error scenarios.
- API Integration: Integrate React components with REST APIs and backend services while handling API contracts and request/response models.
- Backend Development: Develop and enhance backend services using Java and preferably Spring Boot.
- Enterprise Integration: Integrate applications with upstream and downstream enterprise systems and external APIs.
- Testing: Write clean, maintainable, testable code with appropriate unit and integration test coverage.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues across UI, API, backend, and integration layers.
- Technical Design: Participate in technical design discussions and translate business requirements into practical engineering solutions.
- Feature Ownership: Own assigned features through development, testing, deployment, and production support.
Key Qualifications
- 4–5 years of software engineering experience with significant hands-on UI development.
- Strong hands-on experience with React, including components, hooks, state management, and reusable UI development.
- Experience building enterprise-grade, customer-facing web applications.
- Strong understanding of REST API integration, API contracts, request/response models, validation, and error handling.
- Hands-on experience with Java and preferably Spring Boot.
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL persistence technologies.
- Understanding of authentication, authorization, and role-based access control.
- Experience integrating applications with enterprise services and external APIs.
- Good understanding of responsive UI development, accessibility, and secure UI development practices.
- Experience writing unit and integration tests and troubleshooting full-stack applications.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.
