Software Engineer I (Enterprise Architecture)

Role Summary

American Express is hiring a Software Engineer I for its Enterprise Architecture group in Bengaluru. In this role, you will design, build, test, and debug multi-tiered software applications leveraging foundational architectural technologies. You will work across distributed systems, build automated test suites, participate in peer code reviews, and adhere to security standards to drive enterprise technology initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Application Development & Builds: Design, develop, test, and debug distributed software applications using consistent engineering practices and object-oriented design principles.
• Code Quality & Testing: Complete code reviews and implement automated unit, functional, and performance testing under the guidance of tech leads.
• Environment Operations: Support and monitor application builds across test, integration, and production environments.
• Compliance & Collaboration: Adhere to security and regulatory compliance frameworks while collaborating with product and business stakeholders in an Agile/Scrum setup.

Key Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or comparable technical experience.
• Experience: 0 to 2 years of software engineering experience focusing on application design and development.
• Mandatory Technical Stack: Object-oriented programming, distributed (multi-tiered) systems architecture, algorithms, NoSQL and relational databases, and automated testing tools.
• Methodologies: Practical exposure to Agile development practices (Scrum/Kanban, user stories, iterative delivery).
