Role Summary

American Express is hiring a Senior Software Engineer II - Full Stack Web Application for its Card Shop technology group in Taramani, Chennai (Hybrid). In this technical leadership role, you will lead an agile cross-functional team building highly scalable, performant, and fault-tolerant full-stack web applications using React.js and Node.js. You will drive end-to-end features, mentor engineers, optimize applications for latency and accessibility, and ensure a best-in-class customer experience for shoppers exploring American Express products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full Stack Engineering: Lead end-to-end frontend (React, Redux) and backend (Node.js, Express, REST/GraphQL) development for customer-facing web applications.
  • Technical Leadership & Mentoring: Mentor engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and architectural guidance, driving continuous improvement in team delivery.
  • Performance & Accessibility Optimization: Optimize application code for low latency, high availability, accessibility (a11y), and web performance.
  • Quality & Reliability: Write comprehensive test suites, contribute to reliability frameworks, and collaborate with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams to investigate and resolve production issues.
  • Product & Agile Collaboration: Partner with product managers and stakeholders to refine acceptance criteria, translate business needs into technical solutions, and execute in an Agile/DevOps environment.

Key Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • Experience: 10+ years of professional Web Development experience with demonstrated technical leadership capabilities.
  • Frontend Expertise: Proficient with modern JavaScript frameworks, React.js, Redux, and state management patterns.
  • Backend Expertise: Strong experience building and consuming APIs using Node.js, Express, RESTful services, and GraphQL.
  • Engineering Best Practices: Solid background in Agile development, DevOps principles, automated unit/integration testing, performance tuning, and cross-team innovation.
