Role Summary

American Express is seeking an AI Engineer II to build production-ready AI and Agentic AI solutions across enterprise CRM and business platforms. The role focuses on Generative AI, LLMs, RAG, intelligent workflows, scalable data pipelines, and enterprise AI platforms using Python and Google Cloud Platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • AI Engineering: Develop and implement AI and Agentic AI solutions that improve customer engagement, sales effectiveness, and operational efficiency.
  • GenAI Applications: Build production-ready applications using LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, prompt engineering, and AI-powered workflows.
  • Agentic Workflows: Develop intelligent multi-step workflows using orchestration frameworks, tool calling, and context management.
  • Data Engineering: Build scalable data pipelines using GCP services including BigQuery, Composer/Airflow, DataProc, and Cloud Storage.
  • System Integration: Integrate AI applications with enterprise systems, APIs, data platforms, and business applications.
  • AI Frameworks: Contribute to reusable AI frameworks, components, evaluation pipelines, and engineering standards.
  • Production Engineering: Ensure AI solutions are scalable, reliable, secure, and optimized for production environments.
  • Governance: Ensure AI applications comply with enterprise security, responsible AI, governance, and operational standards.
  • Cross-Functional Delivery: Collaborate with product managers, software engineers, data engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver AI-enabled solutions.

Key Qualifications

  • Experience: 3–5+ years of experience in software engineering, machine learning engineering, data engineering, or applied AI.
  • Programming: Strong Python programming skills with experience developing backend services, APIs, and data pipelines.
  • Generative AI: Hands-on experience building or integrating GenAI applications using Large Language Models.
  • Agentic AI: Knowledge of AI orchestration, tool calling, context management, and multi-step AI workflows.
  • RAG & LLMs: Understanding of RAG, vector databases, prompt engineering, and LLM evaluation techniques.
  • AI/ML Frameworks: Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Scikit-learn.
  • Cloud: Working knowledge of GCP, including BigQuery, Composer/Airflow, DataProc, Cloud Storage, and related data services.
  • Cloud Engineering: Understanding of cloud-native development, distributed systems, CI/CD, Docker, and production deployment.
