Role Summary
ALTEN is hiring an experienced Python Automation Test Engineer / SDET (ID: 12280) to join our quality engineering team on-site in Gurugram. In this role, you will design, implement, and maintain modular automation frameworks tailored for desktop applications and system services using Python. Working within an Agile environment, you will collaborate with cross-functional engineering squads to identify high-value automation candidates, build reusable test scripts, analyze failure logs, and track defect lifecycles through JIRA to ensure high-quality software delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Automation Framework Development: Design, develop, and maintain robust, reusable, and scalable automated test frameworks and test suites utilizing Python.
- Desktop Application Automation: Build and execute automated end-to-end tests for desktop applications, validating functional workflows, UI components, and system integrations.
- Defect Lifecycle & Triage: Isolate, analyze, and report test failures; document comprehensive bug reports with reproduction steps in JIRA; and verify fixes across release builds.
- Agile Collaboration: Participate actively in sprint ceremonies (planning, daily standups, backlog refinement, retrospectives), contributing to test estimation and coverage strategies.
- Quality Engineering Continuous Improvement: Evaluate existing test execution pipelines, optimize automated regression coverage, and champion automation best practices.
Key Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 5 to 8 years of solid hands-on experience in software quality assurance and automation testing using Python.
- Core Stack: Advanced proficiency in Python programming, desktop automation tools/libraries (e.g., PyWinAuto, WinAppDriver, or Robot Framework), Git version control, and JIRA.
- Nice to Have: Hands-on experience with test runners (Pytest, Unittest), continuous integration pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI), and REST API testing.
- Professional Competencies: Strong analytical debugging skills, structured problem-solving approach, and clear cross-functional communication.
